Cannabis Concentrates Explained: Shatter, Wax, Live Resin, and More
A beginner-friendly breakdown of the different types of cannabis concentrates, how they're made, and how to use them.
What are cannabis concentrates?
Cannabis concentrates are products made by extracting cannabinoids and terpenes from the plant material, resulting in a much more potent product than flower. While flower typically tests between 15–30% THC, concentrates can range from 60–90%+.
They come in many forms — shatter, wax, budder, live resin, rosin, and more — each with a different texture, flavor profile, and method of production.
Shatter
Shatter is a translucent, glass-like concentrate that "shatters" when broken. It's made using solvent-based extraction (typically BHO) and is prized for its purity and clean flavor. Our OG Kush Shatter is a customer favorite.
Wax and budder
Wax has a softer, more pliable texture than shatter. Budder is whipped during processing, giving it a creamy, butter-like consistency. Both are easy to work with using a dab tool. Check out our full budder and wax selection.
Live resin
Live resin is made from flash-frozen plant material (never dried or cured), which preserves the full terpene profile. The result is a concentrate that smells and tastes remarkably close to the living plant. Our Strawberry Cough Live Resin is one of the most aromatic products in our catalog.
How to consume concentrates
The most common methods are dabbing (using a dab rig or e-nail), vaping (using a concentrate-compatible vaporizer), or adding a small amount to a joint or bowl ("twaxing"). Start with a rice-grain-sized piece — concentrates are potent.
Concentrate dosing tips
Because concentrates are 3–5× stronger than flower, less is more. A single small dab at moderate temperature delivers a clean, flavorful hit. High temperatures burn off terpenes and produce harsher vapor.
New to concentrates? Start with a disposable vape pen — it's the simplest way to try concentrated cannabis without specialized equipment.
